Betaine Plus® supplies the digestive enzymes betaine and pepsin in a convenient capsule form. Originally isolated from sugar beets, betaine can be found in a number of dietary sources including wheat, quinoa, and spinach. Betaine is a catabolic source of methyl groups, involved in numerous metabolic processes throughout the body.
Chief cells in the stomach release pepsinogen where then hydrochloric acid acts as a catalyst in the activation of pepsin from pepsinogen. Pepsin is key in the process of converting protein obtained through the diet into peptides the body can digest to use for energy and structural building.
